Lamentable

Nothing's changed
Since days of yore
When we did ponder
Times long passed

Oh it was
Much simpler then,
We yearned a future
At long last

A technology
To elevate;
A state,
We thought
None surpassed.

Yet we remain,
Tethered by chain;
To a material realm,
Unknown, unmasked.

Did Newton intend,
Or Einstein for this?
Is the wish of death
Our desire to kiss?

Headlong here
Dare we tread
Midst the barely living
And our glorious dead,
With no brave soul to lead the way
It's lamentable
Humanity has gone astray.

Is this our point of no return?
We killed God in us,
His children too;
For our brutality who will burn?
Repent to pay our just due.
